The Art/Music Students of the Month program, which is sponsored by the Anthony Wayne Area Arts Commission, is designed to recognize outstanding visual art and performing arts/music students at Anthony Wayne High School. Through this program, AWAAC wishes to encourage and support these emerging art/music students in all their endeavors.
Each month from October through May, a visual arts student and a music/performing arts student will be selected by the high school art and music teachers to receive this special honor. Chosen students will receive a certificate of honor and gift cards to local businesses from AWAAC. Also, all selected students will be recognized at school art and music programs.
This program is funded through a generous grant from the Anthony Wayne Rotary and additional funds contributed by the Anthony Wayne Area Arts Commission.
The students to receive this honor for the month of October are
Bianca Nagel (visual arts) and Gracie Spradlin(music/performing arts).
Our Student of the Month (SOTM) in visual art for October is none other than Anthony Wayne junior, and Waterville native, Bianca Nagel! We can tell from the way Bianca answered our questionnaire that she is a very bright and gracious young person. The daughter of proud parents, Matt and Marica Nagel, Bianca said she was honored to be recognized as our SOTM. When asked about her art, Bianca said her favorite pieces to create are abstract clay sculptures because they don't have to be perfect; mistakes are easily corrected and working with this medium is super calming. After high school, Bianca plans to attend college and study biology and possibly Spanish.
We here at AWAAC wish you all best in whatever you do, Bianca! Something tells us you'll make us all proud.
Our Student of the Month (SOTM) in performance art is Senior, Gracie Spradlin! Hailing from the green hills of Monclova, Gracie is the daughter of proud parents, Diana and Dannie Spradlin. Gracie was excited to tell us that she has been in love with music since fifth grade band. In a classy show of respect, Gracie shared her spotlight by acknowledging how much she has learned from Mr. Young and her flute teacher, Roz Brinkman. Gracie says that learning to play the flute has been her greatest accomplishment and wants to continue playing in college, hopefully in a small ensemble. Undecided on whose college halls she will soon grace, Gracie plans on studying marine biology and Spanish. Good luck, Gracie. All of us here at AWAAC wish you the best in all that you do.
